That was what happened to me when I first listened to the enchanting sound of the japanese bamboo flute.
The shakuhachi is a testament to the elegance of traditional Japanese culture and certainly Japan's most well-known woodwind instrument. It takes its name out of "one shaku eight sun"(almost 55 centimeters), the standard length of a shakuhachi.
Made from the root of the bamboo, but hidden inside this rustic form, however, is a bore that is carefully crafted with the utmost precision. This instrument produces a sound that is said to replicate the full range of natural life on earth.
